Living and Studying in Sydney

Sydney often ranks highly in various world city rankings. It has hosted major international sporting events, including the 1938 British Royal Olympics and 2000 Summer Olympics. The main airport serving Sydney is Sydney Airport and the city's main port is Sydney Harbor.

The weather in Sydney can change many times during the day. During spring and summer, temperatures can rise between 15 degrees and 40 degrees Celsius, in the middle of the day. Students are advised to dress lightly but always bring a sweater or light cardigan for the evening. During autumn and winter, the temperature in the Sydney area will drop between 5 and 15 degrees Celsius. Students should wear a jacket or coat, especially in a city with strong winds and chilly. Even though it doesn't snow in Sydney, winters can be very cold as most homes don't have a central heating system.

Public transport is easy to find around Sydney and is also reasonably priced. If students are over 15 years of age, they must pay the adult fare for all transportation. International students in NSW are not eligible for concession rates. Students should note that buses from the city and from major bus interchanges only take prepaid tickets during peak hours.
